Get The Most From A Commercial Tanning Bed With A Smart Care Routine

By Christine OKelly

Care and maintenance is a must for any commercial tanning bed, regardless of how much money is spent on the various tanning beds for sale. Having a consistent routine does take time out of an already packed schedule, but the benefits are well worth it. The units will last longer, you will eliminate expenses associated with repairs, and will even increase the amount of clients entering your salon because your commercial tanning bed equipment will continue to look clean and new.

Here are some things to consider when looking at tanning beds for sale and some simple steps you can take to keep your salon running without worrying about your equipment:

Between Customers

When a customer gets out of the commercial tanning bed, make sure to check the unit over to be certain it is clean and in good working order for the next customer. Look at the equipment and keep an eye out for anything that isn't working properly. Lamps should be burning brightly and the surfaces should be checked for breaks or other damage.

This is a good time to evaluate the cleanliness of the equipment and prepare them for the next customer. Salons generally take a few minutes during this time to give a quick wipe to all of the surfaces the client will come in contact with during the treatment. It may not seem like much, but it will build the reputation of your business and increase your customer base. If you are concerned about the amount of time this takes, look for models that have designs that are faster to clean.

Cleaning The Equipment

All brands of tanning beds for sale today have to have a good cleaning on a regular basis to keep the units working their best for as long as possible. Take off the acrylic covers and remove the lamps from the machine to get access to the reflection panel behind it. Wiping this panel off regularly will increase the rays getting to the customer so she can get the best tan she possibly can. When that is complete, start on the lamps and put them back into place as you get them cleaned. Once all of the lamps are mounted back into the unit, clean the protective acrylic cover and put it back into place.

Cooling fans also need to be cleaned on a regular basis. These parts collect dirt and debris faster than most of the other parts on the unit. The location of the fans vary, depending on the style and brand of equipment you have, so it is best to check with your owner's manual if you are unsure. The fins of the cooling fan will only need to be wiped off with a damp cloth. The motor and wiring can be blown clean with a shot of compressed air or you can suck them clean with a nylon covered vacuum cleaner hose. When you clean these areas, watch for anything that may indicate a problem such as rub or burn marks as well as the smell of something getting hot or burning. You will want to have the unit repaired immediately if you notice anything unusual.

Intricate Mechanisms In A Commercial Tanning Bed

All of the models available today have a group of wiring and other systems underneath the unit that are contained under a tray or cover. Many salon owners avoid cleaning the areas of the unit that appear delicate or intimidating. This is a serious mistake. Dirt collects in these areas quickly because of the way they are created. This dirt will continue to collect in this area. If it is left too long, it permanently ruins the unit or it causes a devastating fire. To clean this, you can use a dusting brush on the vacuum cleaner hose, or stretch nylon over the end of the hose to keep from wrecking anything.

All tanning beds for sale require the proper amount of care and maintenance to keep them working. By looking after your commercial tanning bed, you will decrease the amount of expense and downtime associated with repairs and will impress customers with the cleanliness of the units to improve your salon's reputation and profits.
