By Barney Ruch

Do you wonder how to perform flood damage cleanup? Can't you start doing it? Maybe it makes you feel lazy to clean the remnants of a flood. But did you know that there are easy to follow steps on doing a flood damage cleanup? If you didn't, then here it is!

For your furniture and household items, you should take those ones outside to let it dry up as soon as possible. This will help on avoiding molds to grow in your rugs, bedding or clothing. Or if you do not want to take your stuffs outside, you may use an air conditioner or dehumidifier. Those will be a big help on removing moisture. If you do not have an air conditioner or a dehumidifier, you may just open two windows or more to help on ventilating with outdoor air. Make use of electric fans. This will help on circulating the air inside the house.

If you have found out that there are already molds in any of your household items, you should take the item outside your house and then brush the mold off the item. Through this, you can prevent the spreading of molds in your house.

In removing mildews, you should vacuum the floors, walls and ceilings. After doing it, wash the said parts of your house using disinfectants. Oh, wait. I forgot to remind you that while doing mold-related stuffs, you must wear a two-strap mask that will protect you. You should do that, unless you want to breathe in the spores of mold.

Also remember that you should throw away mattresses if you are doing a flood damage cleanup. And regarding your upholstered furniture that are soaked, you should leave it to experts or professional people because soaked upholstered furniture contains contaminants from flood water.

If there are toys or stuffed animals in your place that are already soaked by flood water, you will need to throw away those ones because those things sip more water than the usual. After it had gone through flood damage, flood damage cleanup can not save it anymore. Kids might play with them again and usually they put their toys in their mouth. That will just expose them to unnecessary health risks.

Your important documents and materials including books and photographs can be frozen while doing the flood damage cleanup and then soon you can clean them. Drying those stuffs should be in a careful and slow manner to avoid further damage on them. Wash away the molds and mildew that can be found in your documents. Freeze them and then if you are no longer busy with other things, you may bring it to a document freeze drying professional. Do not pretend that you are a professional, and try and perform document restoration, as your documents will be more damaged. It is all right to use some money for the restoration of your documents. Anyway you need the important documents, don't you?

Just follow the said methods for flood damage cleanup, and your flood damage cleanup will be relatively effortless. Do it as soon as you can because every second counts if you are to prevent the growth of mold.
