What Is The Difference Between A Paid Inclusion Translation Service Versus A Free Service?By Kristi Ambrose It's amazing the number of people that use services like Yahoo's Babel translation services, however, the problem is that most of these people don't realize that these free services are incredibly low quality. So what exactly are the differences between paid versus free? Is it worth it? Is the quality somehow higher? Well to answer the last two questions, yes and yes. See when you use a free service, it's being looked at by a computer or a website script, when it comes to certain things scripts are great. However, it's not particularly great for translation processes. These free website translations are sort of like an auto-answer. You put in the content and it gives you the output answer as quick as it can (literally in milliseconds). But when you use a paid service it takes a bit longer, and for good reason! These paid services actually use real people to read whatever content you have given them, and they translate it without software or CATs (computer assisted translations). If it's not already obvious to you, this of course creates a higher quality result since a computer or website is pretty much guessing, whereas an actual person with experience in a specific language, isn't guessing, they are doing what they were hired to do, translate the content properly and without mistakes! I have always wondered about this, ya know what if you do translate something English into something German, how in the world would you ever know if it was exact or not? So on a test run I went to a few translation sites and placed a paragraph in English, translated it to another language like Arabic and then reverted it back to English. Ya know what I found? Well, it wasn't good I can tell you that much! It was no longer in English let alone broke English so this only tells me one main thing and that is when I translated it into Arabic it was probably unreadable as well! This is the exact opposite any of us would hope for, or expect. After all aren't these free services like Babel supposed to be trustworthy? Well they aren't! Unfortunately for the free sites, I have stopped using services such as these and instead use a translation service in which I have to pay for. All in all when you really think about it business wise or personal wise, this is well worth the cost. Especially when it comes to the business side of things. For instance, if you speak English and you are trying to write out a legal document for a business and they only speak Japanese, you want it to be perfectly professional, meaning no mistakes big or small or forgivable. You use a service like babel, and you are going to get low quality junk. You use a paid service and you can almost guarantee it's going to be top quality work!
